The University of Global Health Equity (UGHE) is a world-class institution redefining how healthcare education is delivered. Set in the hills of Butaro, Rwanda, UGHE sits at the intersection of academic excellence, social justice and pioneering innovation. Co-founded by Partners In Health, it shifts the traditional centre of gravity for global health research and training into the communities that need it most.
UGHE pairs rigorous clinical instruction with systemic training in health equity, policy and community-based care, so that every clinician, researcher and leader trained on its campus emerges equipped to heal both individual patients and entire healthcare systems. Supported by state-of-the-art simulation centres and an international cohort of scholars, UGHE is not merely teaching the future of global health; it is building a more just, compassionate and healthy world from the heart of Africa.
Minimum qualifications: a master’s degree in a health-related field and at least five years of teaching experience.
Desirable: a doctorate, and current employment in higher or tertiary education, preferably in health professions education.
Please plan for two things yourself: travelling to a major international airport in your own country, and obtaining a Rwandan visa if you need one. Both are your responsibility, so check what is involved before you apply.

The form asks which weeks you are available, so applying commits you to neither.
This intensive, week-long training programme is designed for health professions educators, clinical trainers, academic leaders and health-technology innovators looking to integrate artificial intelligence into medical and public health education.
As generative AI, adaptive learning and intelligent clinical simulations reshape global healthcare delivery, the course provides the practical skills, strategic frameworks and ethical grounding required to design and deploy AI-driven curricula. Across five immersive days, learners move from foundational concepts to building functional, context-aware AI educational tools for both high-resource and resource-constrained clinical settings.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

Write the cover letter yourself. It is a strong indication of how seriously you take the programme and carries real weight, and a letter written mainly by an AI tool is easily recognisable to the reader. Give detail about your experience delivering a course of this nature, your commitment to SDG 4, the delivery of quality education, and the skills and attributes you would bring.
Your CV should state clearly where you are based, your education and your current employment, followed by your professional activities: presentations, publications, grants received and similar.
If shortlisted, you will complete a situational judgement test covering your approach to safeguarding, followed by an interview with our Co-Heads of Programmes to discuss your teaching ideas for the programme and your pedagogical approach.
If selected, onboarding to Professors Without Borders begins immediately, alongside travel arrangements. We will also put you in touch with our contact at UGHE to coordinate your arrival in Rwanda and design the in-person delivery of the programme.
Our programmes are taught by volunteer academics and professionals. We cover the travel; our host partners cover accommodation and local costs.
