Are you a proud Nigerian living in the UK or USA? This July, you can help transform lives back home by supporting a powerful educational initiative.
Professors Without Borders started in Nigeria with the University of Lagos (UNILAG) in 2022 with a unique focus to provide local faculty with leadership training. With students, we've worked on improving financial literacy and fostering entrepreneurial skills. Since then, we have returned to UNILAG each year, we've also expanded our work to Ekiti State University (EKSU) in nearby Ado Ekiti.
We want to deliver two short-course programmes in Nigeria, empowering 150 university students and teachers with 21st-century skills. We want to send five educators to teach at the University of Lagos and Ekiti State University this July. At UNILAG we will lead classes on Financial Literacy in Africa, Social Entrepreneurship, Research Methods and Gender Equity. Ekiti has asked us to teach classes on AI & Digital tools, Teaching, Research Methods, and Sustainability.
Join us as we support Nigeria’s future leaders—one classroom at a time.
Located in Nigeria’s biggest city, Lagos, UNILAG is one of the country’s most respected universities. It focuses on preparing students for the future with strong academic programmes, leadership opportunities, and community service.
Situated in Ado-Ekiti, EKSU has been shaping young minds since 1982. The university supports a vibrant student community and aims to build future professionals and leaders across Nigeria.
Nigeria, the most populous country in Africa and its second-largest economy, faces significant challenges and opportunities. This course explores Nigeria’s economy within a global and regional context. Africa holds 60% of the world’s uncultivated arable land and has 5.5 million cubic metres of underground water, yet hunger persists. Up to 31.5 million Nigerians may face acute hunger in mid-2024. African nations must efficiently exploit their natural resources, exporting surplus to fund investments in other sectors, support urban populations, and train human capital. Globalisation and technological advances offer opportunities for Africa, but assuming a leap to a service economy without a manufacturing base is questionable. Climate change and income inequality add conflicting pressures.
Governments should create favourable conditions for economic growth, providing basic amenities to enable individual success. The course will look at the comparative international financial metrics and culminate with students being asked to devise policies to achieve the goals necessary to achieve a sustainable, diversified economy for Nigeria.
This course offers students a hands-on experience to explore new or existing business ideas, equipping them with the skills, knowledge, and mindset to launch and grow successful ventures. Through a transformative journey, students will learn key principles, strategies, and practical steps for turning innovative ideas into viable businesses.
Graduating from university is a significant achievement, but it also brings about new financial challenges and responsibilities. This course is designed to equip students with essential knowledge and skills to navigate the world of personal finance successfully and develop a solid foundation for making informed financial decisions throughout their lifetime. The course provides a comprehensive overview of key financial concepts and practical strategies that are applicable to students’ current and future financial situations. Through a combination of lectures, discussions, and interactive exercises, students will gain a fundamental understanding of topics such as financial planning, family finances and financial instruments.
Students often remember their most inspirational teachers for a lifetime. These are the teachers, instructors and professors that enthusiastically shape lives, redirect careers, and connect far beyond the classroom. While inspirational figures may seem extraordinary, in fact a variety of research in the social sciences offers clues to becoming a more inspirational leader and teacher. In this programme, attendees will learn about contemporary research in motivation, goal-setting theory, leadership and much more. They will also enact inspirational pedagogical practices through experiential learning, gaining the confidence along the way that each and every teacher – each and every person – can inspire others. Cross-culturally adapted, drawing on the skills and experiences of the attendees as well as the instructor, this programme offers attendees the tools to deepen their impact with students and others.
This course aims to raise awareness of climate and sustainable development issues, empowering participants to lead change in their communities. It explores sustainable development, climate governance, and the role of NGOs in addressing these challenges. With a focus on the Global South, the course blends theory, group discussions, case studies, and practical activities to help students develop strategies for local climate action and inclusive green development.
